- Funky Food and Beer Walk in Reykjavik Iceland
On my last trip to Iceland, I took a tour called the Funky Food and Beer Walk. I highly recommend it so I'm not going to give it all away here but I'll share the highlights. Lalli was a wonderful guide with great stories and interesting tidbits of history. It was easy to see how much he loves sharing the history and food of Iceland with visitors. He has a history tour as well so I'll try that one next time. The tour was not only entertaining but provided plenty of food and ended with a craft beer flight at a craft beer pub. You will taste 9 traditional foods and 5 craft beers on this tour and you will walk the town learning about history, the Icelandic people, where to shop, Reykjavik, and of course, the food and beer. We started the tour at Hallgrimskirkja and walked over to the Loki Cafe for a selection of traditional food including the famous fermented shark. Mainly for tourists now, it was once eaten by the Icelandic people as a last resort to avoid starving. Lalli will fill you in on this piece of history. Here we learned about the meat, fish, and bread eaten today. We also learned about how it is prepared and how it should be eaten. A really fun experience. Next, we stopped by Reykjavik Street Food for another selection of traditional food and sampled both meat, fish, and bread including soup and stew. While they prepared our table we were invited into a beautiful gallery with photographs of the Highlands and the Northern Lights. I'm sure you have heard of the Icelandic hot dog as a must-try experience. By the time we got there, I was already full and split the hot dog with a friend. You must have it with everything on it to get the real experience. The hot dog is 80% lamb and the remaining 20% is beef and pork. It was really tasty. Lalli also pointed out the Icelandic Punk Museum as we passed by. This museum is located in repurposed bathroom stalls. We didn't go in but it made for some great photos. The last stop was at Skuli for craft beer including a wonderful raspberry sour. This offering changes based on seasons and batches. Lalli left us here with some words of advice on how to save money and have a great time in Reykjavik. I've taken many tours but this one stuck with me and was really fun, reasonably priced, and engaging. I highly recommend this tour when you are in Reykjavik. If you want to try this tour the next time you are in Reykjavik, you can check it out and book it here. If you would love to see Iceland but don't know where to start, we are here to help. Destination weddings currently account for 25% of all weddings annually. As a segment, it continues to grow each year across demographics. As the owner of Vibrant Travel, I quickly recognized there was increasing demand for travel experts who can create unforgettable weddings, elopements, and vow renewals in the world’s most beautiful places. - Make Your All-Inclusive Resort Vacation Memorable
Great for Destination Weddings, Honeymoons, Groups, and Couples So you are ready to kick back, have a thirst-quenching umbrella drink, soak up the sun, and enjoy everything you get from an all-inclusive resort. Right? Right! You know there is a but coming. All-inclusive resorts are amazing and a great place for individuals, couples, groups, and, of course, amazing for destination weddings.... here it comes....but... make sure you get the most out of it and choose the right one for your style. Here are some key concepts to make your next all-inclusive vacation a memorable one. Destinations and Options Many people end up at an all-inclusive because it is an easy choice, especially for groups and it may well be!. However, before you proceed with booking, take the time to consider what you like to do on vacation. Are you adventurous? Do you like water sports or would you rather hike? Do you want to see unique animals or just cuddle up in the room and on the beach? Adults only? Family oriented? Couples only? These are all pieces of the vacation puzzle that will help you choose the right destination and then the right type of resort. Offering and Price All-Inclusive resorts come in all shapes, sizes, and prices. The package prices may seem high at first but remember food and drink are included as well as some other offerings like watersports or walks, self-guided tours, etc. So I'm not much of a drinker but do love the occasional umbrella drink or drink-of-the-day. But trying to save money by choosing a European plan for that reason may not be the right choice. Prices will be high for a la carte food and drink so keep that in mind. Take all that is offered into consideration before you back away from an all-inclusive, you may be surprised at the value. However, if you plan on exploring the area, spending little time at the resort, and not eating or drinking there, this may be a good option for you. Aruba is known for a variety of cuisines and both all-inclusive and resort stays are great here. Staying Healthy Unlimited food and alcohol can catch up with the best of us. They certainly have their pluses and minuses. Be careful not to overdo it, and it is very easy to overdo it, so you can enjoy all the resort has to offer, besides your bed and the porcelain god. Everything Is Included or Is it? All-Inclusive, it's in the name so it must be true. Well, yes and no. However, all-inclusive resorts include a lot but rates vary and so does what they include. Transportation, tipping, sports, and top-shelf drinks may or may not be included. The spa usually has a charge for services but may be included in some room categories or resorts. Review what is included before booking. Know That Things Happen With any stay, anywhere, anytime, things can happen. Bad weather, lost luggage, wind, seaweed. You can choose to allow it ruin your trip or you can understand that sometimes as much planning as you do, things happen. Tell the front desk if it is something in their control and they will work to help rectify it. Fair warning, they have no control of seaweed and yes, it smells. However, a good travel agent can tell you the best time to avoid it. Try Some Local Flavor It is so tempting to just stay on property, and depending on where you are, sometimes it is the best choice, but many times there is much to see outside the resort. Experience the local culture, try local cuisine at a recommended restaurant, visit a museum, ancient ruins, or the downtown area. Even if you don't leave the resort try some new food and drink from the region you are visiting. Always ask and find out if a tour is your best option for this and check the safety of an area before proceeding on your own. Get What you Pay For This may be obvious, but you're paying for an all-inclusive vacation for a reason: There's a lot included so make sure you know what the resort includes in the rate, and plan to make use of all the perks. Maybe you have poolside piña colada deliveries, sailing lessons, snorkel gear, mini golf, or private island cabanas. You paid for it, use it. Destination Weddings All-Inclusive resorts are a great place for a destination wedding. They are less expensive, have a lot to offer, and make a great vacation. Your guests get to go to a tropical location, share in your magical day, and can take a mini, or longer vacation at group rates. What's not to love? Ask for Help Travel advisors book all-inclusive resorts every day and can clear the clutter for you and help you narrow down where to go and the best way for you to meet your travel needs. Ask for help with the process from the people that have the connections, know the area, and can find answers to those burning questions. At Destination Weddings by Vibrant Travel, we research, plan, and book destination weddings and honeymoons for couples and their friends and family looking for wonderful locations for that special moment. We help our clients by saving hours of searching the internet, refining the overwhelming amount of choices, handling all the booking details, answering questions from guests, and best of all, we free up your time to enjoy being engaged. - Best Souvenirs to Buy in Iceland
You're going to Iceland and you want to bring back something special to remember your trip and let loved ones know you thought of them while on vacation. There are a host of things to buy in Iceland from art, wood carvings, food, knitwear, books, and cheeky things too. The main shopping area in Reykjavik is Laugavegur shopping street. Here you will see everything from boutique and vintage clothing to beauty stores, cafes, housewares, and souvenirs. It's a hip and trendy place to spend lots of money or just walk and enjoy the area. The other shopping must-see areas for souvenirs are the Kringlan shopping mall and Kolaportid flea market, Pro tip: When shopping for Iceland souvenirs make sure you check the tags. Like everywhere, some things are not made in Iceland, so if you are looking for authentic souvenirs, be sure to check the tag. Beauty Icelandic women are known for their natural beauty. If you want to bring back something special try a few of these brands and products. The best known would be products from The Blue Lagoon. Products contain herbs, algae, and silica mud from the lagoon itself. You can also arrange for spa services or a day pass at the Retreat at the Blue Lagoon Spa and Hotel for a special treat. Other well-known beauty products and skincare brands to consider are Skyn Iceland and Sóley Organics. Iceland has many brands as you would imagine so try a few and see what you like. Pro tip: Buy these at the duty-free shops at the airport and save some money. Yes, you can buy some of these here in the US and online like most things, but to buy it where it comes from has a special sentimental value. Chocolate Chocolate bars are always a great gift and a great snack while on vacation. There are many bakeries and sweet shops to choose from while there, and one you might want to try is the Omnom Chocolate and Ice Cream Shop. As of the article, the factory tour is on hold but check into it before you go. Bars can be purchased at grocery stores and souvenir shops all over. The Omnom Chocolate is one of the favorites among Icelanders. With a focus on sustainability, the ingredients are sourced from sustainable farmers. Made from cocoa beans, sugar, Icelandic salt, and Icelandic Milk, it is mixed with unique ingredients. The beans are sourced from Nicaragua, Brazil, Tanzania, and Madagascar providing optimum flavor. The chocolate, licorice, and sea salt bar is a favorite among Icelanders but they offer many others including raspberry, caramel, sea salt, and unique flavors and blends like burnt barley. Another Icelandic brand to consider is Noi Sirius, which was established in 1920 and specializes in semi-sweet, bitter, and milk chocolate varieties and of course the ever-popular licorice. Icelanders love their sweets so you will find chocolate everywhere from the flea market, to stores, to duty free shops at the airport. Adult Beverages or Beverages Beer was not legal in Iceland until 1989. You read that right 1989. Thank goodness it is legal now and they are racing forward with craft brews too! You can buy alcohol in only two places besides bars in Iceland; the airport and a government alcohol store. Since 1989 beer has been a growing industry and Icelanders love their beer. There are more than 26 breweries that exist across the country now as craft beer continues to grow and win awards. Popular Icelandic beers to try include Lava, Gædingur Stout, Leifur Einstok, Skuli, Borg, and Kaldi to name only a few. Beer connoisseurs all have their own favorites so try a few and let me know yours! One alcohol product, however, has been around for some time and it's called Brennivin. It is a spirit flavored with caraway seed and packs a very strong taste. It is said to taste like everything from aquavit to gin to vodka. I say moonshine but was voted down by the travel group. It was originally used to quell the taste of a fermented shark, called Hakari, also a must-try when in Iceland....if you dare. Pro tip: if you plan to drink in your hotel room, you may want to purchase your alcohol at the duty-free shop at the airport upon arrival. Pricing is better and you will get it out of the way. Pro tip 2: You can buy alcohol at the duty-free shop and have them seal it in a bag to bring home however, they must be able to see in the container so do not attempt to bring home cans of beer. Clothing Winter options such as hats, scarves, and gloves are a great choice but there is one item that is a must-have from Iceland; Lopapeysa or Lopi Sweaters These Iconic sweaters use wool from Icelandic sheep which have 2 coats. The top coat is coarse like most wool, and the undercoat is softer wool. That said if you find wool itchy, and even if you don't, these are best worn with something underneath. Since you will layer most of the time in Iceland go for it. Traditionally these sweaters were black, white, grey, or brown taking on the color of the undyed wool. They are recognized by the yoke pattern. These sweaters will set you back about $150-$200 so if you are thinking about saving and love to knit, buy some yarn and knit your own. Two stores to try for warm clothing are Icewear or 66 Degrees North. For Lopapeysa try the flea market or the Hand Knitting Association of Iceland. in Reykjavik for authentic hand-made sweaters. Music It's always fun to bring back music. The country that brought us Björk has much to offer in terms of music beyond alternative music. They have great music festivals in the summer or stop by one of the music stores to see what is to your liking. Ask for advice and they'll be happy to help you decide. Cheeky If you love cheeky souvenirs try one of these. Icelanders have a unique sense of humor and are free spirits with respect to their sexuality and their bodies. With that in mind, one of the most asked-for and unique gifts would be Nature Condoms. The brand offers designs such as Lava formations, Northern Lights, Hot Springs, An Erupting Volcano, and an Erupting Geyser, representing both the open nature around sexuality and the beautiful landscape and nature of Iceland. Not as much cheeky, as corny-but-fun, is a Mink Viking Portrait. Schedule a session with the photographer that will dress you, and your family as a Viking and go through a full 45-minute to 2-hour photo shoot. This is a professional shoot and they will make you look like a Viking so don't think of amusement park saloon shots. The owner is well known for a career in photography and film and is known for working on "Game of Thrones". He will share his knowledge of Old Norse Life and the clothing is authentic to the period. Prices at this time run approx $85 per person. Not bad for a great souvenir! Check out a few photos on their website here: https://mink.is/ Salt You are on an Island with an unlimited resource for salt. Much of it comes from the northern part of Iceland and you will see it everywhere. It is packaged in many ways and sizes as well as many flavors the most popular being Lava Salt. Personally, I like Rhubarb but there are all kinds from fruit to herbs to chilis. These make great gifts and work well in gift baskets. Christmas Traditions Iceland has 13 pranksters called Yule Lads as part of their Christmas traditions. They are holiday trolls that take turns visiting the children on the 13 nights before Christmas. Children will place one of their shoes on the windowsill and the lads will fill them with candy. For any children that were not good, instead of coal, they will get rotten potatoes. You can find these mischievous lads in various forms from carvings to puzzles. Check out the Christmas shops in Reykjavik, all year long to find the Yule Lads and some beautiful ornaments too. Fun and Free Things to Bring Back You don't have to spend to find unique gifts but it sure is fun! Why not try these ideas? When visiting the black sand beach, bring a small bag and collect some sand. Look for a shop with tiny bottles and a cork or cap and fill them with the sand you collected! Iceland is known for the best water so why not do the same with water? Bring some back from one of the waterfalls, a glacier, or fresh from the tap. Don't forget liquid limitations at the airport. This next one is actually sold to tourists and feels a bit like giving nothing but you can do this on your own; bring back a jar of fresh Iceland air. With so many unique souvenirs to choose from, you should be able to find something fun for yourself and those unable to come! With average highs of 84-88 with summer hitting 91and a breeze that won't stop, it's the perfect place to be any time of year. Eagle Beach Eagle Beach – voted the third most popular beach in the world. While relaxing on this picturesque island, make sure to stop by Eagle. The beaches on the island are white sand leading to stunning turquoise seas. No matter what you are searching for, Aruba has beaches for everyone - if you want to delve beneath the sea, you can snorkel the delicate reefs and shallow waters of Mangel Halto or take a trip to the secluded cove of Baby Beach. Aruba treats its beaches as sanctuaries, where tourists can walk, swim and become connected to their happy place. The best beaches on the island have pure alabaster sand and crystal clear waters creating postcard quality photos. Hooiberg Hill Aruba has so many natural wonders that can be found nowhere else in the world. Watching the sunset off the mountaintop of Hooiberg Hill is a must. The ancient volcanic mountain is 540 feet above sea level and is situated in the center of the island. Hiking up 587 steps to the top of the mountain, Hooiberg Hill provides stunning views of the whole island over the sea. And on clear days, you can see Venezuela to the south! Pro Tip: There is a gazebo rest stop halfway up the hill for those who need a rest. Arikok National Park If you're searching for that picturesque view of Aruba, the best place is from the highest peak, Mount Jamanota, located inside Arikok National Park. In Arikok National Park, the exquisite Caribbean beaches open up to rocky deserts, towering green cacti, and limestone cliffs. It's also home to the Fontein Caves and the Natural Pool, which are two of the most amazing natural wonders in the world. Sunrise City If you want to forever hold onto your Aruban adventure, take a trip to San Nicolas, also home to baby beach, where authentic Aruba is shown off. Offering colorful galleries, shops, amazing street art, and boutiques, San Nicolas has one-of-a-kind gifts, goods and accessories made by local artists and craftsmen. For a smallish island, culture and art are alive and thriving. The culture is seen through spirited rhythms, art, and dance throughout the streets. A must-see in Aruba is Sunrise City, a charismatic coastal town blessed with an array of colors in street art and galleries of every kind. If music and dance are your thing, follow the sounds of the steel drums and calypso music to the weekly festivals. Travel Tip: "Bonbini" means welcome in the native language of Papiamento, and each week there is a welcome festival held to welcome the guests to the island. The Food Because they have many all-inclusive resorts, travelers tend to miss a hidden gem. The culinary delights on the island really give an experience of every kind. Whether you want to delve into fresh fish caught fresh from the sea, enjoy a subtle glass of wine at sunset or load up on classic Italian dishes in the shadow of a century-old lighthouse, there are dining options to delight and tempt every tastebud. From Dutch to Asian, African to Spanish, Aruban food is like traveling the world from the comfort of one exotic island. There are over 250 eateries on the island and it really is best to play with the local flavors to enjoy all that the happy island has to offer. The majority of restaurants in Aruba are located in the high-rise hotel area of Palm Beach, in downtown Oranjestad and alongside the beautiful Caribbean Sea – so it will always be dinner with a view. Travel Tip: Typical Aruban dishes include pan bati (cornflour flatbread/pancake), carni stoba (beef stew) and keshi yena (stuffed cheese). Oranjestad Not far from the port, should you come by cruise ship, you will find a lively shopping strip showcasing jewelry, fragrances, and designer stores. But it’s the must-see Dutch delicacies, Aruba aloe products, and Cuban cigars that really add to the shopping experience of this paradise. Travel tip: Aruba is renowned as the shopping paradise of the Caribbean, offering goods 10-35% cheaper than the U.S. and better priced than Europe. - What's the Big Deal with Packing Cubes?
Top 4 reasons why I love packing cubes. I wrote a review several years ago because I was going to try packing cubes for the first time. Everyone was talking about it so, I wondered if I was missing something. FOMO at its best! Putting a bag in a bag seemed counterintuitive to saving space, and as an over-packer, I need space, but after trying them I won't leave home without them now. I still have not tried compression cubes since I can't seem to buy in on the wrinkle-free claim when you are compressing your clothes into a tiny pancake. However, it would really help if you want to free yourself from the "FOLL" (fear of lost luggage) and take a carry-on only. Just watch the weight of the bag. Back to the question of saving space, I really can't say it does, but it doesn't use more space. Let's talk about rolling. It is supposed to help with wrinkles and saving space. I'm going to say a big no on wrinkles. I've tried to save space by rolling, but still don't see it. I end up laying the clothes flat. It is recommended with cubes too so I'd love to hear if you have made it work. So, why do I love them so much? Here is why: 1) Organization Packing, to me, is a nightmare. What to bring? Will I need this or that? Where do I put shoes which have walked on the streets of Europe, Disney, and my neighborhood? Yeah, a plastic bag works on that one. I need things quick when I travel. Trying to make everything fit is one thing, finding it later is another. When I need something from the suitcase, I'm searching through layer upon layer in my suitcase, and my clothes end up all over the place and wrinkled as the trip goes on. Hello packing cubes! I have a cube for each clothing group. Shirts, pants, shoes, socks, and undergarments, etc. The latter is my favorite. I used to roll small items and stick them in every open space, now they are all in one place. Pro tip: Always mix and match as much as possible. So when you open the "shirt" bag it matches anything in the pants bag. Jeans can be worn multiple times so don't pack a pair for each day. And, when possible, use the laundry service. 2) Wrinkles Let me start by saying, my clothes are not wrinkle-free, however, the cubes do make a difference in the amount of wrinkles for a few reasons. Without them, everything bunches together at the bottom, with them they wrinkle a little. I really need to try rolling on my next trip. 3) They Fit in Everything. Use as many or as few as you like and use them in every bag. I put them in my carry-on or even a "personal item" the airline allows me to have. They really help with wrinkles in those types of bags and help you stay organized too. Safari side note: Many safari tours only allow a soft-side or duffle bag and very limited weight. The words organization and duffle bag, just don't go together but cubes would really help here. You can find information about what to wear on a safari in my blog. 4) A Sanity-Saver on Multi-Stop Tour Hell So I'm one of those people that unpacks when I arrive at EVERY hotel. I can't live out of my suitcase unless there is no other option. I'm busy when I travel and I just need to find things quickly so I can get down to breakfast and a much-needed cup of coffee. When I take a private or group tour, sometimes you are packing and unpacking daily and at minimum every few days on the tour. For me, that is no problem because I unpack my cubes, they go in a drawer, and done! Tips for Your Cube Choices With so many choices on cubes, here are a few tips: Some come with a laundry bag, mine did, and others with shoe bags. There are many combinations or you can just buy two sets. Check the zippers. I've heard they have issues. I have not had any with mine. Get one where you can see the clothes. Many have a mesh top in case you forget which bag has what item in it. Check out the post I wrote before I tried them, with an update after I tried them. The post includes the top cubes on Amazon, which still have 4.5 to 5-star reviews today. A link is at the bottom of this article. - The Best Souvenirs To Buy in Antwerp Belgium and Surrounding Cities
A visit to Antwerp, Belgium is a bucket-list item, to be sure. The chance alone to sample delectable Belgian chocolates and taste Belgian waffles made in the place they originated is reason enough to make the trek, but Antwerp has countless other amazing opportunities when it comes to making purchases. With so many wonderful options, how is a traveler to know what to spend and what to skip? Our buying guide will give you several good ideas to get you started on your shopping journey through Antwerp, Belgium. Diamonds First on the list is diamonds. Since the 15th century, Antwerp has been a major player in the diamond trade, and it is no different today. More than 85% of the world’s rough diamonds are traded here. Likewise, 50% of the world’s cut diamonds are here, and Antwerp’s diamond artisans pay meticulous attention to detail as they design and create unique pieces of jewelry art. Before you go, educate yourself about the four c’s of diamonds (cut, clarity, carats, and color) to prevent being taken advantage of. The diamond district is on and around Pelikaanstraat Street, and the district is closed on Saturdays. If you prefer other precious stones, those are readily available in Antwerp, as well. Clothing In the Golden Age of the 1500s, Belgium was a fashion center. After falling into fashion anonymity for a significant period of time, The Antwerp 6 reintroduced Belgium to the fashion scene at London’s Fashion Week in the 1980s. Each of the six designers now has a fashion label, as do many who have come after them, and Belgian designers have dressed American celebrities including Sandra Bullock and Kerry Washington. Be sure to take a stroll through the fashion district, but check store hours ahead of time, as they aren’t open every day. Artwork Belgium has a rich art history, and Antwerp’s art market proudly displays a wide range of artwork for purchase. Everything from sculpture and photography to graphic design is available to purchase as a special souvenir of your time in the city. Lace Belgian lace is world-renowned and has been for some time. Since the early 1800s, a lace-making school and lace market has been housed in a distinctive red building in Handschoenmarkt. Today, fourth-generation family members run The Kantwinkeltje (lace market), which has an amazing range of lacework available for purchase. Word to the wise: Handmade lace is not cheap, so consider buying some as a heritage purchase. Tapestries Besides the other fabric arts of fashion and lacemaking, Antwerp has a rich history of tapestry production. In the sixteenth century, Antwerp was the tapestry distribution center for all of Europe, in addition to being a place where tapestries were created. While taking home one of these handmade beauties is sure to set you back a pretty penny, it will, no doubt, be the crown jewel of your home for years to come. There’s no shame in spending your money on Belgian chocolates or waffles. They’re both delicious! However, be sure to save back some for souvenirs that will last more than a second on your taste buds and an hour in your stomach. Make purchases that will be statement pieces and conversation starters (skip the slide show and display your souvenirs!) once you return home to the States. Traveling to Belgium offers so much, plan your next trip to see the charming towns, beautiful gardens, wonderful food, and plenty of souvenirs. - So You Want a Destination Wedding!
How to get started planning your destination wedding Good Question! Aside from the dress selection, bridesmaids' dresses, tuxedos for the guys, and normal wedding requirements. A destination wedding has some additional requirements and decisions. Here are a few decisions you will need to make when considering a destination wedding. It is just a start . The best part of a destination wedding is that it can actually save you money! Start with a Vision Ask yourself a few questions: What does your childhood dream wedding look like? Has that changed to something new now? What makes you happy? Are you a photographer, scuba diver, relax and decompress kind of person? Choose a Date Dates have meaning for many couples; the day they met, their first date, a first kiss, the day he proposed, and so on. Weekend weddings are harder so you must plan far enough in advance so you are able to get the date. Now, if you want a specific date at sunset.....get that date locked in! It is not unheard of to plan a destination wedding 12-24 months in advance to get that perfect date and time. If you are flexible, all the better. The Ceremony Where would you like the ceremony to take place? Toes in Sand on the Beach Near the beach A Flower Garden (think about bees) A Tropical Rainforest A Volcano in the Background By a Pool On the Lawn In a Church All of these factors will help to choose a resort or venue. Think About Budgets Yes, plural. First, consider what do you want to spend on the wedding events, your stay, and your honeymoon. Next, think about what you want your guests to spend for their stay in the tropical paradise you have chosen and for how long. One shout-out to All Inclusive resorts is that meals and drinks are covered. This is usually a great option for both you and your guests. Get Help! Destination weddings or any wedding for that matter are a lot of work! There are details upon details, deadlines to meet, payments to make, family squabbles, linens, seating charts, save-the-dates, invitations, ocean view or suite, and so many decisions. Let's not forget the hair, makeup, dress, and tuxes. Head spinning yet? A travel consultant trained in destination weddings can help you. For the all-inclusive mentioned above, your travel consultant will seek out the ones that offer included events, promotions, and savings. Their job is to be your advocate. Meet with a few until you find one that fits your personality, you feel comfortable with, and one that understands what you want. Symbolic Ceremony or Legal Ceremony This question is important! Symbolic ceremonies are the easiest because there are little if any legal requirements. Legal ceremonies can involve, translators will be performed in the native language of the location chosen, blood tests, affidavits, government officiants, extended stays, and so on. This means extra costs as well. So, if you want a legal ceremony to understand what will be required. Guest Count How many people will you invite? How many will come? How long will they stay? Are children invited and at what ages? This will be important in selecting the resort to ensure everyone is happy. The guest count also determines perks that you might be able to receive from the hotel. Your consultant will help you here because you will be required to block rooms and place a deposit to block them and lock in the price. Blocking the right number of rooms is critical to ensure there are enough rooms but not too many so that you don't lose deposits. Pick a Destination Sometimes choosing a destination and choosing a resort come hand in hand. Maybe you were engaged in Mexico and want to return for your wedding. Or you and your husband-to-be have always wanted to go to Costa Rica. If you know where you want to go, first mystery solved! One to the next one. Pick a Resort There are so many to choose from and this can be a daunting task. When working with a travel consultant, unless one resort is just perfect and checks all the boxes for you, your consultant will likely provide a few options based on your needs, budget, guest count, and type of wedding to name a few to help you decide where. Tieing it all Together Yes, there is a lot to do for your special day. This is only a small list. The sooner you involve the help of a destination wedding specialist, the sooner you can get rid of the stress and start pulling everything together with their help. The resort coordinator will be the person at the resort that will work with you and get the final details of events, dinners, etc, but by then, usually, 90 days before the wedding, you will have spent the last year working with your travel consultant to be ready.
