Ambras Castle, known as Schloss Ambras in German, is a Renaissance castle located in the hills above Innsbruck, Austria. Ambras Castle was built in the 16th century by Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol (1529–1595).

He was a Habsburg ruler wotth a passion for art, culture, and science. He transformed the medieval fortress of Ambras into a Renaissance castle.


One of the most famous parts of Ambras Castle is the Spanish Hall, a grand banquet hall adorned with portraits of the Habsburg rulers. The hall was constructed to host extravagant events and celebrations. It is renowned for its wooden ceiling, which features 27 portraits of rulers from the Tyrolean line of the Habsburg family.

Maria-Theresien-Straße

The street is named in honor of Maria Theresa (1717–1780), the only female ruler of the Habsburg dominions and one of the most influential monarchs in Austrian history. She ruled from 1740 to 1780 and was known for her administrative and economic reforms. Today it is one of the top tourist spots in Innsbruck.
